Allyson Felix Makes History; Merritt defeats Wariner Again

Allyson Felix's continues her dominance in the 200m by taking her third consecutive IAAF world championships. After shaking off a disappointing second place in the Beijing Olympics last year, Felix recorded a season-leading mark of 21.88 in Europe weeks before the world championships. She came off the turn with Jamaican rival Veronica Campbell-Brown stride for stride, and it looks as if Campbell-Brown will finish with her signature kick, reminisce of the Olympic Finals. However, Felix kept speed while Campbell-Brown slowly lost her knee-drive, evidently losing the race.

When one rises, the other falls.

After two victories at the U.S. Olympic Trials and 2008 Olympics, LeShawn Merritt continues to edge Jeremy Wariner in the 400m at the World Championships to conclude Day 7 of the meet. Both runners looked smooth and consist through the first 200 meters, but when Wariner increased his speed through the second turn, but he didn't extend any sort of lead on Merritt.

Wariner, however, was coming off a turmoil these last two years. In January 2008, Wariner left Clyde Hart, the track and field head coach of Baylor University, after budding heads with him. Hart saw Wariner as a pure 400m sprinter, but Wariner wanted to double in the 200m and 400m. After unsuccessful attempts in medaling in the 200m and losses in the 400m during major events, Wariner rejoined Hart's program(who also coaches Sanya Richards) this past May to savage what was left of his 2009 season, which was marred by an ankle injury.

Wariner said that the ankle sprain might have hindered his ability to perform at his peak, but he also said that it was no excuse for running mid 44 seconds. He acknowledged that there will always be a rivalry between Merritt and himself, but there is no animosity between the two.
