Chelsea Johnson, Pole Vaulter: Shares Silver:
UCLA alum Chelsea will share the silver medal with Poland's Monika Pyrek. Both of them cleared 4.65m on their first attempt at that height. When both Pyrek and Johnson moved the bar up to 4.67m, both failed to clear that height. Pyrek's countrymen Anna Rogowska took gold with a vault of 4.75m. Olympic and World Champion Yelena Isinbayeva lost her reign in the pole vault scene. She failed to clear a single height in the finals.
"It left Johnson with a silver medal and sympathy for Isinbayeva, who hardly earned such consideration after failing to clear a height and finishing last in a final won by Poland's Anna Rogowska at 15-7....It clearly will take more than one comeuppance. Isinbayeva, 27, was as graceless in defeat as she has been imperious in victory."

*Note, the winning height in the pole vault was the lowest within the last six years.
That doesn't matter. A gold medal is a gold medal.
Tyson Gay drops out of 200m:
Defending World Champion Tyson Gay will not compete in the 200m and will focus on recovering and on Team USA's 4x100m relay team. Despite competing with a nagging groin injury all season, Gay managed to set an American Record in the 100m finals yesterday in Berlin. Even though he placed second, the race tolled on Gay's leg and injury. Now, instead of pursuing a possible stake for the podium in the 200m while risking injury, the 2007 champion will rest to benefit himself and Team USA in the long run.
